Orthodontics:  Idiopathic External Apical Root Resorption: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

Abstract: This report presents an interesting case of idiopathic external apical root resorption (IEARR) affecting the non-occluding teeth in a 20-year-old Caucasian male patient with a Class III malocclusion. A review of the current literature is reported and the presenting features of the patient are discussed.

Clinical relevance: Root resorption evident prior to treatment can impact on the possibility of orthodontic treatment. This interesting case highlights a clinical need for treatment and also that root resorption can occur without active orthodontic forces.
