Abstract: The orthodontist plays a significant role in the management of children with cleft lip and palate. This article summarizes the key stages of input and some of the challenges that may be encountered.

Clinical relevance: Within the multidisciplinary team, orthodontics treatment is often the most burdensome in terms of appointments and treatment time for children with cleft lip and palate.
